Jobs Catalyst: CodeBoxx

CodeBoxx is a technology training company that prepares people from all walks of life for a career in technology. Its immersive 16-week course imparts the most in-demand skills in the industry. The company supports students throughout their tech training journey, including job placement, either via its extensive network of corporate partners or hiring them at CodeBoxx Solutions, its consulting arm. Tuition is deferred until employment.

The demand for tech talent in the Tampa Bay area is nearly limitless. More than 70% of companies surveyed in 2019 reported that they were unable to secure the skilled workers that they needed. CodeBoxx employs industry experts to mentor students with no tech background, preparing them to be job-ready on day one. The program also incorporates “soft” skills, such as collaboration, teamwork, problem solving and a business-first perspective.

CodeBoxx is on a mission to connect anyone with potential to a career in technology. The company has a commitment to recruiting nontraditional candidates, including women, people of color, and low-wage workers. Through a partnership with the St. Petersburg Foundation, funds are being raised to support people who need extra help to join the program. For example, those who cannot go without an income for the 16 weeks of full-time CodeBoxx coursework, or who lack a laptop or access to the internet. The Foundation has an extensive network of nonprofit partners who are helping to identify prospective students in the community.

CodeBoxx has developed a pre-course to help high school students discover their aptitude and interest in a career in technology. A pilot program will launch this fall focused on youth who will age out of the foster care system, giving them an opportunity to explore CodeBoxx as a career training option and enroll in the 16-week course upon high school graduation.
